Reporter (Grand Forks Herald)

The Herald is looking for (2) full-time general assignment reporters to produce engaging and in-depth stories on a variety of topics.

We are looking for a versatile, digital-minded reporter who can quickly turn breaking news, while also digging deep into data and interviews for enterprise stories. We are looking for someone with strong writing skills, news judgment and a willingness to dive into their story metrics to see how we can best expand our audience.

We are seeking someone who can get to the bottom of big issues, while expertly explaining those issues to the public, and at the same time can find a feature story that makes the masses go wild with interest. This position will work in various storytelling formats. It may include some evening hours. Think you might be the right person for the job?

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

● Focus on people-driven narratives and stories that affect the day-to-day lives of our readers.

● Incorporate multimedia aspects such as video, audio, and photography in all stories.

● Brainstorm digital storytelling formats and execute the technological components required.

● Must be flexible and have the ability to move from one story to the next, tweak the website, and work with digital analytics tools.





POSITION REQUIREMENTS

● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in journalism. Experience in a professional newsroom is preferred. Exceptional recent graduates will be considered.

● Strong organizational, time management and people skills are essential.

● Flexibility is required.

● Ability to write accurate, clean, crisp stories on deadline, handle sensitive and emotional situations, balance competing demands, set priorities and juggle several stories at once.

● Photography and video skills are a plus.

● Must have a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is insurable by the company.

● Work hours include occasional nights, weekends and holidays.
